The hardest part of getting to the gym and achieving results for me has always been consistency and the key to consistency is motivation. Over the years I've developed quite a bit as a lifter and recently I tried something new that I think you guys will benefit a lot from if you have a struggle with motivation in the gym.
It's called Reverse Pyramid Training, and the principle is that you start your lift with the hardest set you will do that day.
When I first started lifting, I learned to lift in a 10-8-5-3 progression. This means that you go to do an exercise and your first set consists of 10 reps, your second consists of 8 reps, your third consists of 5 reps, and your fourth consists of 3 reps, finishing pretty close to failure. This is a very effective way to learn how to lift weights and build strength, especially if you are consistent. The problem becomes as you get older and have more time constraints and you reach more strength plateaus, this begins to be somewhat boring.
I've been at a plateau now for several years at least.
I haven't quite hit three plates on the bench yet. I haven't quite hit four plates on the squat yet. And I've just been hovering at this place, lifts have become boring and mundane for me as well as time constraints becoming worse and worse, so I can't spend 3 hours in the gym, just hanging out anymore.
Last week, I started with this new method called Reverse Pyramid Training, where instead of trying to do 10 reps and then work my way up in weight, I start with a set to failure at the highest weight I will do. So today, I went in and I squatted 275, and I did 7 reps for my first set because I haven't been in the gym for a while and I was sure how I would feel trying this new method on squats. I expected to only be able to get 3 or 4 reps, but I got 7. You can't imagine how good it felt coming off that very first set of the day. It felt like a huge win. Next week when I go in there and do squats again, I'll start with 315. And it'll be another massive win. So now every day when I go to the gym I'm looking forward to these massive massive wins right at the beginning of my lift
The motivation here is incredible. It's the biggest one I've had in the gym, working out on my own in several years. And I just wanted to share it all with you so that you could go in the gym and try it out and maybe have a similar win.
God bless you all,
Justus
Over the last couple weekends I spun up a little side project, Peppy Memes: https://peppymemes.com/
The current gif providers are hopelessly woke and owned by big tech. I figured we need an alternative.
It's very "V1" so please send me feedback, bugs, etc. I'm developing it in my free time (limited) and paying for hosting etc out of pocket.
I'd be especially grateful if you uploaded all your favorite pepes, memes, and gifs.
Thank you!
The Jewish Tunnels this week has sparked a bit of research.
I'm not sure where I'm going with it but I want to share the running document before it gets memory-holed:

Today I published a substack on the recent election in Ohio:
I'm furious. We must be praying fervently to retake Ohio and the rest of the country.
I will go live here on Locals a bit after 5pm ET tonight to pray for better outcomes on the abortion issue going forward.
May the Lord have mercy.
